“I’m Excited to Learn and Grow”

 

Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb

Good afternoon everyone.

Greeting to all of the judges, all of AIYEP Delegates alumni, all of participant and everyone.

 

I’m Sirli Fitriani from Indonesia University of Education Serang Campus.

Previously, I was very grateful to be able to take part in an English speech contest which was organized by AIYEP Delegates. I love discussing and speaking in public, but sometimes I feel so nervous. And this is the first time I entered an online English speech contest. I hope you enjoy.

On this occasion, I chose My Dream and Passion to Create a Better World as a theme. Because in my opinion, this is quite an important thing for us to discuss. I tried to interpret this theme and finally I found an appropriate title is “I’m Excited to Learn and Grow.”

Since childhood, if I have hopes and dreams, I always write them down. For me, this is very important so that I can always remember, and I can always measure the extent and what I have to do to make it happen. Being a teacher was my dream since I was little. I really like things related to education. I really want, someday I can become a quality teacher who is able to produce superior Indonesian human resources. So that later it will be a long-term investment for the advancement of civilization, especially in Indonesia.

Ir. Soekarno once famously said that, "Reach your ambition as high as the skies. Dream it as high as the skies. If you fall, you are going to fall among the stars." Perhaps, this phrase is already familiar to us, Indonesian people. Yeah, his passion in pursuing his dreams at such a young age should set us an example.

 I’m very sure, everyone must have a dream. Whether it's a simple dream or a very big dream. Indeed, when we have a dream, we are living. Don’t stop at dreams, but we must also move to reach our dreams. So, the question is, are we only dreaming? But there is no meaningful manifestations?

With dreams, we will have the power to achieve our hopes. It’s like a booster so we want to get up and move forward. When we have dreams, we must also include passion as a form of our spirit. So, where do we start from? In my opinion we should start from changing our minds.

Everything starts from our mind. When we think positively, then we will also get positive energy so that we can do and respond to a thing well. Vice versa, if we think negatively, in achieving our dreams, we will also be filled with worry about failure or other things that make us afraid to dream.

I’m excited to learn and grow. Whatever it is, I will try as much as possible to be able to realize my dreams. In the process, surely we will meet with the name of failure and success. This is normal. About failure or success, the most important thing we've tried. Trying to do the best, trying to fight the fear that is in us, trying to break the limits, trying to give and spread goodness, not only to ourselves but to our neighbors, society, even giving a better thing for this world.

The dream is lulling, sometimes it makes us trapped in fantasy when there is no movement. Will only be a wish, if there isn’t passion to make it a reality. We know that this universe gives so many valuable lessons for us. We must be able to take the wisdom that is in it. Don't waste our lives. Dream while you can dream, then get up and go step by step until we can get what we dream of.

Make our lives meaningful, for the people closest to us, our environment, even if we are able to create something so that the world will be better. Make this world proud because of our presence. Don't let our existence or not exist in this world make no difference. Hopefully with the dreams that we realize can have an impact to create a better world. Maybe enough from me. Thank you.
